The Bellona class, designed by Thomas Slade of Victory fame, was virtually the prototype of the 168-foot 74 gun ship of the line which was to form the backbone of the English Battlefleet throughout the Napoleonic wars.  The Bellona herself was was begun in May 1758 and launched in February 1760, and continued in virtually unbroken active service until being taken to pieces in September 1814.  The model is based on the ship as it was redone in 1780, with copper bottom.
